River Market Opening Day!
Live at the River Market 9/3 : The Barefoot Movement
The Barefoot Movement is an acoustic trio with members hailing from Granville County, North Carolina and Oneida, TN. The group fuses the styles of bluegrass, old-time, Americana, and rock, creating an eclectic, original sound, featuring interweaving harmonies, progressive instrumentation, and accomplished songwriting.
The name “The Barefoot Movement” has many different meanings for the group. “The initial reason the name dawned on me is because I always feel more relaxed when I’m shoeless, and I noticed that before our shows would end, my shoes would be off”, says Noah. “So I think the name is just our way of encouraging people to sit back and relax once in a while-especially when listening to us play.”
Live at the River Market 8/27 : Grace Adele & The Grand Band
Grace Adele has mixed elements of acoustic Americana, Country, and Retro. With her silky sultry vocals she caresses every word in songs of love, loss and laughter.
Grace Adele surrounds herself with the finest talent. Whether she is performing as a trio with mandolinist Keenan Wade and fiddler Melanie Joy or traveling with her string players known as The Grand Band the group always delivers an all out striking performance.
Live at the River Market 8/6 : Jill Jack
Jill Jack’s magical connection to her audience is the result of her generous artistry. By combining her gifts as a conceptual visionary with a warm gathering of musical influences, Jill touches that secret heart of ours with her melodies and lyrics.
Jill has built her audience with her whimsical, genuine live performances. Genuine is the defining term here. Propelled by her musical exemplars Joni Mitchell and Emmy Lou Harris, there are few performers with less conflict between who they are on stage and off than Jill. She extends the tradition of the confessional (i.e. achingly open, unafraid of intimacy) singer-songwriter, and is proud of that style and its continuation.

Live at the River Market 7/16 : Michael Jacobs
Cherokee recording artist Michael Jacobs’ Native American/American “roots” music artfully fuses contemporary and traditional sounds, and is filled with powerful imagery. Michael’s not interested simply in educating people about Native American culture or Native American issues. His songs address human issues: peace, justice, suffering, the environment, relationships, personal responsibility, and wellness.
Live at the River Market 7/9 : Kate Klim
Kate Klim was five years old when her family inherited a piano, 9 years old when she received her first lesson, and 11 years old when an unsuccessful audition for the film “Life with Mikey” caused her to rethink her career as a moviestar. This was fortunate, because the singer/songwriter Club Passim has since called a “local rising star” then turned to music.
With roots in Palatine, Illinois and Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Kate was raised on a steady diet of Carole King , Paul Simon, Billy Joel and John Lennon. Later on, her influences grew to include Patty Griffin, Jonatha Brooke, Chris Trapper and Garrison Starr.
Live at the River Market 7/2 : Megan Light
Originally from the northern wilds of Winter Harbor, Maine, Megan Light relocated to Nashville in 2005. Her first studio LP was produced by Robert Reynolds (The Mavericks), released in 2007. Her latest effort, Black & White, is a five song vignette of indie-pop, with Megan’s delicate vocal, acoustic guitar and piano the framework for the overall sound.
Live at the River Market 6/25 : Sarah Donner
Sarah Donner is an indie folkpop star who has embraced the catlady inside her. She works the stage with a powerful vocals, zippy guitar, and a candid stage presence that is all Sarah Donner. Her third full-length album Typing Is Dangerous was released in 2010 with great rejoicing. ‘The Sleep You’ve Been Missing’ is a healthy combo of indie rock sensibility and singer/songwriter intimacy with notes of electronic influences.
Sarah Donner’s quirky The Irrigation Song music video landed her a featured slot guest on NPR’s You Bet Your Garden in 2010. She was also chosen as a regional finalist in the 2010 Mountain Stage New Song contest. In 2009, Sarah was a New Folk finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival. The songs ‘Whalers and Sailors’ and ‘Knocks on a Door’ were chosen from over 800 entries. She is a graduate of Westminster Choir College. After stretching her legs with musical theatre, she picked up a guitar, abandoned her classical roots, and started rocking out (with fantastic breath support).
Live at the River Market 6/18 : Chickamauga Rodeo
Proud Georgia natives, Chickamauga Rodeo look to history for their name as well as their musical influence. Taking their moniker from the famous second-bloodiest battle of the Civil War, these friends produce a unique blend of traditional folk, country, and bluegrass that stays true to the musical traditions of the South while making a mark all their own.
The band was created when Rusty Torbett and Alan Broom joined up with lead guitarist and banjo player Arron Ramey. Rounding out the group’s sound is Lori Edmondson, Toby Vick and fiddle player Owen Saunders. These six musicians are proud to preserve the musical heritage of the south drawing on traditional gospel style, bringing a uniqueness that adds to the traditional genre without diluting its essence.
