We are a Bigger-Sounding Contemporary & Grass-Roots Acoustic Band.

Beginning May 1st, Saturday mornings will start off with free yoga at 10:00 am under the River Journey Pavilion. BYOM (bring your own mat) and enjoy the Chattanooga Community Yoga class along the beautiful Tennessee River.

Matt Downer, from Chattanooga TN, performs traditional old time music on fiddle, banjo and guitar. Growing up on Sand Mountain, AL, he learned to play music from his grandfather and the elder musicians of the area. A veteran performer, he has played at various venues and festivals including – Rock City, Tivoli, Nightfall, Riverbend and the International Stringband Festival, performing with legendary artists such as – Carolina Chocolate Drops, Pokey Lafarge, Jack Rose, Michael Hurley and Norman Blake. His most recent album was recorded without electricity, directly to wax cylinders, on a 1906 Edison Gramophone at the MTSU Center For Popular Music. A performance by Matt is a trip back in time to the “good old days” of early American music.

Scenic City Sound is comprised of talented local amateur and professional musicians who love big band. Many of these musicians have played together for over 15 years. We are from the Chattanooga TN, Cleveland TN and North Georgia areas.

Maria Jordania has been a musical force in Chattanooga for several years. Her sound is constantly evolving, from the cool jazz and funk sounds of Smooth Dialects, to one of the voices behind Tennessee’s Dead. As a fan, you don’t want to look away because you might just miss the next installment of Maria’s fascinating career. A commanding stage presence, fashion icon when she walks in a room, a Maria Jordania (LVNDR) is a show not to be missed.

Some members of Sweet Georgia Sound live for the greatest hits of Oktoberfest. They express that passion for polka as the Wurstbrats. The Wurstbrats have been a staple of Oktoberfests in Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain, and Atlanta for over fifteen years. The Wurstbrats style is that of a German-Austrian-Polish city festival band. You’ll hear songs you know like ‘The Beer Barrel Polka’ and ‘The Pennsylvania Polka,’ as well as tunes that would be familiar if you were from the Old Country. We bring the Oompah to the Tennessee Valley and beyond.

Here’s a little information you might want to know about me! I grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, in a breakfast community of DC. I lived in the same house all my life until I moved out at 17.

At 18, I picked up the guitar and my life changed. I had always written poetry (mostly bad lugubrious poetry,) but with help of a good friend and some alcohol, I was able to discover what I want to be doing until I die. Some people never figure that out, so I consider myself fortunate.

I have written hundreds of songs. It’s what I do. It’s who I am. Sometimes writing is the only thing that feels real in my life. The first song I ever learned to play was a song that my friend and I wrote called “The World is Constipated!”

Currently, I’m residing just outside of Chattanooga, TN on Signal Mountain. I’m taking in the sights and sounds of the south as I continue my journey writing about the things that happen to me and the people that I meet as I navigate these strange and troubling times.

Imagine Nirvana and the Beatles had a kid together who became an acoustic rock singer/songwriter: that’s Bryan Bielanski! Although he is inspired by some of the rock greats like Tom Petty and REM, he has a distinct musical style and songs with lyrics that make you think deep thoughts and feel like you’re really alive! This critically acclaimed globetrotting singer/songwriter has been touring the US and the world since 2012. Bryan Bielanski is full of fun energy and catchy songs and he is ready to entertain you!

Nina Ricci is one of the “new guard” of the old American folk revival. She heralds songs of the 1960s folk movement and writes a new chapter in her own songwriter’s voice. Nina’s artfully-crafted songs stand for themselves as lovable woven narratives sung with a confident air and savvy lyricism. Her onstage mien is both endearing and charismatic and she is personable on and off stage.

Nina’s journey in music is ever-unfolding. Her talent has made room for her among music artists such as Carolyn Hester, John McEuen (The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band,) and John Paul White (The Civil Wars.) She continues to surprise her peers and audiences through her unique gift of music with songs such as, “Bird On A String,” “All the Crown Jewels” (unreleased,) and, most recently, “My Head Is Full of You” (2022.) Nina’s voice has a singular quality all her own. She is a trained singer who was educated at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Nina is also a guitar player. Her particular brand of finger-style playing bears an essence of the folk music she adores, and her ability for songwriting, she says, is “a gift that was given innately and not acquired by education.”

The Stratoblasters live by a musical code that says “if you play great tunes and have fun doing it, the listeners will come right along.” The music ranges from pure R&B to straight ahead rock n’ roll! This wide range of great tunes is what drives this band and gets people dancing.

The Stratoblasters are a local cover band that has been playing in and around Chattanooga for many years. In the past two years we have played Riverbend twice, Nightfall and New Years Eve at the Doubletree along with numerous parties and some bar gigs thrown in for good measure.

Sweet Georgia Sound has brought both traditional and contemporary big band music to weddings, fund raisers and civic events for over 20 years. SGS plays frequently at the Chattanooga Market and has performed multiple times at the annual Riverbend downtown Chattanooga music festival.
